Somers Golf Center to Hold Annual Mini Golf Tournament

The tournament, which benefits the Somers Congregational Church, will take place on Saturday - and there are still openings!

On Saturday, the Second Annual Somers Community Mini Golf Tournament will be held at the on Route 190.

This tournament is to benefit the .

Somers Congregational Church member and Tournament Committee Chairperson Mark Rivard says that last year, the annual traditional church golf tournament was removed from the activity list and when he heard about the cancellation, he suggested that a mini golf tournament be considered.

Last year’s event was low key and was only advertised within the church,” he said. “All 52 golfers really enjoyed the event and were already talking about next year before the tournament was over.”

Rivard said that the teams were made up anywhere from grandparents and grandchildren, to senior citizens, to teens and families.

There will be a hole-in-one and closest to the flag chip challenge contests which Rivard says are sure to be some of the high points of the day.

Prizes will be awarded for low score adult, low score child 12 and under, low score team, hole-in-one adult, hole-in-one child 12 and under, chip challenge adult, and chip challenge child 12 and under.

There are currently over 75 people registered for the vent but there are still openings for both the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. starts. The tournament is limited to the first 36 foursomes.

The cost is $15 for a single and $55 for a foursome. The cost includes one round of mini golf, a food coupon for a hot dog or burger, fries and drink, and a token for one round of mini golf at a later date.

For more information, or to participate in the event, call the church at 860-763-4021 or e-mail minigolf@somerscong.org.

The rain date is Sunday with start times at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The church phone system will have a message, rain or shine, as to the status of the event.

According to Rivard, this year’s event has been stepped up a little with the addition of the opportunity to win prizes that have been donated by local businesses.
