Somers Baseball Wins Big Game Over Avon

Avon came into the game only having one loss in the league.

On Thursday afternoon the Somers High School baseball team hit the road to Avon and came home with an 11-7 victory over a team that only had one loss in the league.

Ryan Connor led the way for Somers, going 3-for-5 with four runs batted in, and Mike Casciano was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI.

Brian Rossini was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Brian Hollister was 2-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, and two runs scored. Justin Erickson went 2-for-5 with two runs scored for the Spartans.

For Avon, Dan Sheiker was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base.

Hollister took the win for Somers, walking three, hitting a batter, and striking out two. Connor came in in relief and walked two and struck out one.

Mitch Cappello took the loss for Avon.

Somers (8-4, 6-4) hosts Ellington on Wednesday. Avon (8-3, 7-2) hosts Canton on Tuesday.
