Volleyball Season Opens Today

The Ellington High School team has a goal of making the state tournament.

This year, the volleyball team has the goal of making the state tournament.

Last year, the team went 5-10 (three matches were never played due to the storm), but would have made the tournament if it had been able win just two more games.

“Missing even the opportunity was a little heartbreaking for last year’s players,” said coach Allison Watras.

Captains this year are seniors Ali Larew, a libero, and Karli King, a setter. Also returning are senior outside hitter Janna Grinaski and junior setter Sam Salwa.

The Knights also return senior middle hitter Emily Lorenzet, junior outside hitter Alyssa Tournaud, and junior outside hitter and opposite Lanae Schneider.

Rachel Tshonas, a senior middle hitter, is a newcomer, but is the tallest player and will be looked at to step up for the team at the net.

The Knights open the season on Wednesday at home against Coventry.
