Somers Soccer Shuts Down Coventry

Coach Mike Pantuosco said it was the first time in quite a while that the Spartans played 80 minutes of solid soccer.

On Tuesday, the Somers High School girls' soccer team defeated visiting Coventry 2-0.

The Spartans got on the board just six minutes into the game on a rocket from Kathryn O’Connor. The senior co-captain was assisted by Erin Pfeifer and Lisa Lorenzi.

The score remained 1-0 through the first half even though Somers had a number of good scoring opportunities. The best of those was on a cross that Pfeifer volleyed just wide.

The second half was much like the first and Somers was unable to get an insurance goal despite a number of shots from forwards Lorenzi and Kathryn LaVallee.

The defense kept Coventry from putting any pressure on Stetson and finally with just over four minutes left, Pfeifer teamed up with LaVallee and got the second goal.

Coach Mike Pantuosco said it was the first time the team played 80 minutes of solid soccer in quite a while.

Somers (5-4) travels to Windsor Locks for a night game on Wednesday.
