Somers High School Makes State High School Rankings

The school is ranked No. 35 in Connecticut by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual ranking of public high schools was announced Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report, and made the rankings for top schools in the state.

Somers was ranked No. 35. did not make the list.

A total of 21,776 public high schools throughout the country were reviewed.

Somers earned the 35th ranking in the state (and was ranked 1868th nationwide) based on criteria that includes student teacher ratio, a college readiness index (determined by percentage of students taking and passing Advanced Placement and/or International Baccalaureate exams), and students' proficiency on standardized tests.

Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy – a magnet school in East Hartford – earned the spot as the state's top-ranking public high school in the U.S. News & World Report survey.

The methodology used in the rankings is a multi-step process, where information from nearly 22,000 public high schools throughout the country is reviewed to determine national and statewide rankings. The top 500 schools nationwide earn gold medal status.
