Somers Baseball Stays Hot

The Spartans defeated visiting Hale-Ray for their fifth straight win.

The baseball team continued its winning streak with a 4-1 victory over visiting Hale-Ray on Tuesday.

Jake Alvaro earned the win for the Spartans. He threw a complete game four-hitter, allowing one earned run, and no walks. He struck out 11.

"Alvaro put in another strong outing on the mound," Somers coach Eric Sharon said. "(He) kept Hale-Ray off balance and just overpowered them with his fastball."

Alvaro also helped himself at the plate, adding two hits and a RBI for the Spartans (12-7).

Jon Merrick had two hits and two RBI for Somers and Justin Liquori had two hits - including his fourth homer of the season.

Pete Olsen took the loss for Hale-Ray (8-8).

Somers travels to Windsor Locks on Thursday for a game at 7 p.m.
