Shelby LaDue Helping to Lead Somers to Success

The senior center fielder is a leader in many ways for the Spartans.

The Somers High School softball team is off to a hot start this season and part of that is due to the success and leadership of Shelby LaDue.

"I firmly believe that we have had such a strong start (6-0), in part, because of her leadership and incredible work on the bases and at the plate," Somers coach Melanie Zamorski said.

In the last two games, LaDue has gone 3-for-4, scored three runs, had nine stolen base and five walks.

LaDue is a senior captain and four year starter. She is also a leader for the Spartans.

"She is a leader in every sense," Zamorski said. "Shelby keeps the team focused at all times, is vocal in center field and on the sidelines. She spends extra time every day working on her own hitting, as well as working with the underclassmen on theirs."

Zamorski says that most importantly, LaDue is a completely unselfish player.

"She only looks out for the betterment of the team," she said.
