Ellington Students Awarded Prestigious ECSU Foundation Scholarships

Sarah Bedford, Shelby Champagne, Liane Povilonis, and Demetri Voukounas are all students at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently announced its list of ECSU Foundation Scholarship awardees for the 2013-14 academic year.

Sarah Bedford, of Ellington, was awarded the General Endowment Scholarship. Bedford's major is Computer Science.

Shelby Champagne, of Ellington, was awarded the General Endowment Scholarship. Champagne's major is Social Work.

Liane Povilonis, of Ellington, was awarded the ECSU Foundation Faculty/Staff Scholarship. Povilonis's major is Psychology.

Demetri Voukounas, of Ellington, was awarded the Doris K. Brown Endowed Scholarship. Voukounas's major is History/American Studies.

More than 325 Eastern students received ECSU Foundation Scholarships at a special reception on April 11. The total amount of scholarship funds awarded by the ECSU Foundation totaled more than $500,000, a record amount.

The ECSU Foundation's scholarship awards are coordinated by the Office of Institutional Advancement. According to Kenneth DeLisa, vice president for institutional advancement, "ECSU Foundation scholarships recognize students in good academic standing and help provide important financial support so that our students can reach their goal of obtaining a college degree. Our ability to provide this level of scholarship support is due to the generosity of alumni and other donors, who recognize the value of investing in today's students as they prepare to be tomorrow's citizen leaders."
