The Ellington-Somers Knights football team took on the Rockville Rams on Friday night at Rockville High School in a tune up scrimmage before the start of the 2011 season.

Ellington-Somers hosts Canton at noon on Saturday.

Ellington-Somers quarterback Bryan Rider scored three rushing touchdowns and Mitch Diresta scored on a screen pass from Rider as Ellington won the scrimmage 35-6.

Rider broke several tackles and dragged Rockville defenders on his last touchdown run which made the score 27-0 in the third quarter.

Ellington-Somers’ offense was clicking with Jason Moustafa joining Diresta and Rider in the Knights backfield that gave Rockville problems all night. Backup quarterback Garrett Boulanger ran in the final score for the Knights in the fourth quarter.

The Knights will be looking to improve on a 6-4 record from last season with several returning starters including Senior captains Victor Viega, Luke LaVasseur, Sean Coverdill, and Diresta.

Ellington-Somers head coach Keith Tautkus said that even though the team played well Friday night, there are still some things to improve on.

“We have to play hard in order to have a successful season,” he said. “We do have a lot of experience and that will help, but we still need to show up and play hard in order to be successful.”

While the rushing attack looked strong on Friday night for the Knights, the defense looked even better. Rockville didn’t score any points until its final drive in the fourth quarter with 2:14 left in the game.

Rockville only had the ball on Ellington’s side of the field four times all game against the stiff front line of the Knights.
