Bacchiochi Nominated for Sixth Term

The Republican has been elected to the 52nd General Assembly District seat since 2002.

Penny Bacchiochi was recently nominated for re-election as State Representative for the 52nd Assembly District comprised of the towns of Somers and Stafford. 

In his nominating speech, David Reed, Somers Republican Party Chairman, noted that Bacchiochi had served her 24,000 constituents in the Stafford, Somers, and Union well over her ten years as State Representative.  

“Eyes are a window to one’s soul,” Reed said, “And when you look into Penny’s eyes, you see a woman who is kind, confident, caring and capable. She doesn’t see herself as anything more than herself, but she continually elevates everyone around her through her encouragement and praise. Penny continually demonstrates a high standard of excellence and works continually to be proactive and to do what is best for all the people of her multi-town district. But most importantly, she has integrity. Honesty, respect for other, with the high energy it takes to put in long hours and much travel, we are indeed fortunate to have Penny Bacchiochi as our State Representative.”

In her last term, Bacchiochi backed the Republican alternate state budget that would have reduced state spending by $345 million while bringing back the clothing tax exemptions for clothing and footwear purchases under $50 and non-prescription drugs, she voted to reinstate the property tax exemption to its original $500 level, she supported bringing the state police to their statutory limit of 1248 troopers, and she opposed the early release of prisoners that had been convicted of violent crimes and crimes involving firearms.

In her acceptance speech, Bacchiochi thanked the delegates for their support and dedicated herself to continuing to seek the best possible answers to the many problems faced by the people of Somers and Stafford today. She pledged to continue to seek out fiscal responsibility by the state, maintaining and improving the public safety, and reducing government infringement on a person’s rights. 

Bacchiochi has been elected to the 52nd General Assembly District seat since 2002. She is a member of the General Law Committee, the Public Safety and Security Committee, the Energy and Technology Committee and serves as Chairman of the House Republican Caucus.
