[Updated] State, Local Police Investigate Report of Man With a Gun at MCC

Multiple media outlets are reporting that a local police officer was injured when a gun was accidentally discharged in Manchester Community College Charitable Foundations building. Students and staff are beginning to be released.

Update 4:50 p.m.

People that had been kept in one of the main buildings on campus are being released, exiting the building a few moments ago, many of them with their hands up.

Update 3:55 p.m.

According to scanner reports, there was an accidential discharge of a firearm in the Charitable Foundations building at the college.The Hartford Courant is reporting that the injured person is a police officer. 

Several people inside the buildings have been Tweeting from inside college that police are now going room by room to release students and staff.

Update 3:25 p.m.

The following information was just posted on the Manchester Community College Web site:

"MCC is presently under a shelter-in-place emergency and advises that all students stay off campus until further notice. Remaining classes and events for Wednesday March 6 have been cancelled.

Manchester Community College has issued an emergency alert warning students and staff to stay off campus "until further notice."

There is also a large police presence on the campus, and chatter over the police scanner indicates that the police are searching for some type of "suspect" on the campus. 

The Hartford Courant reports that a "man with a gun" was spotted on the campus around 1:30 p.m.

How long will we throw money at a problem that stems from the home and societal policies promotedRead More over the years? How many years and how much money is needed to fix the fact that so many children are growing up in households without fathers? If we give the schools all the money they want, will it fix the problem? I think not. It is not a school issue. It is a decaying society issue. I'm glad I'm old.

Penny, glad to see some (albeit few) smart people are working in Hartford for the people and notRead More just for their political careers! Since the large majority don't pay attention, it is important that we continue to educate people on what our representatives are doing in Hartford. Keep up the good work, and thanks for taking the time to write this article.
