Ellington-Somers Police Blotter: Jan. 27-Feb. 2

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police, are accurate as of Feb. 3, 2012. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

Jan. 26

Orlando Guzman, 46, of 193 Cottage St. in Bridgeport, was transported from MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution to Rockville Superior Court so that an active arrest warrant accused could be served for an incident on Bilton Road in Somers. A trooper placed Guzman under arrest on an active arrest warrant for fugitive from justice. He processed and held on a $40,000 bond set by the court. He was then turned back over to the state marshals to be presented to the court.

Jan. 27

, 40, was transported from Walker Correctional Institution to Rockville Superior Court so that an active arrest warrant could be served. A trooper placed Diaz under arrest on an active warrant issued by the court for first-degree reckless endangerment, evading responsibility, and traveling fast. He was processed and held on a $2,500 bond set by the court. He was then turned back over to the state marshals to be presented to the court. This incident occurred on South Road in Somers. On the same day, was placed under arrest an active arrest warrant issued by the court for evading responsibility and reckless driving for an incident on . He was held on $5,000 court set bond.

A 28-year-old Ellington woman was traveling in the rotary located at the 5 Corners intersection from Windsorville Road and a 16-year-old Ellington girl was traveling east on Wapping Wood Road. The 16-year-old woman failed to grant the right of way to the other woman and subsequently struck her vehicle in the rotary. No injuries were reported during this incident. 

Jan. 28

Two parties, Brooke Ballard, 18, and a juvenile female, were observed stealing items from the and exiting the store without payment. Both parties were subsequently charged with shoplifting.

Jan. 29

At approximately 5:50 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Route 83 in Somers for a one car into a pole accident. Subsequent investigation revealed that the operator, a 21-year-old Somers man, was traveling north on Route 83 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the road for an unknown reason and collided with two CL&P utility poles located off the right shoulder of the northbound travel lane. Both poles were damaged. The man was transported to St. Francis Hospital for reported minor injuries. 

At approximately 7:43 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a home on Blue Ridge Road in Somers for report of a burglary. Subsequent investigation revealed that miscellaneous items and jewelry were stolen after a person or persons broke a rear window to gain entry to the home. Items were later recovered in a motor vehicle after the suspected burglar crashed his vehicle on Route 83 in Somers. This case is currently under investigation. 

Jan. 30

A residence on Minor Hill Road in Ellington was forcibly entered, causing damage to an exterior doorway.

Three vehicles were forcibly entered at an auto repair shop located on Sandy Beach Road in Ellington during the early morning hours of Jan. 29 and Jan. 30. Car stereo systems and personal items were taken from the interiors of the vehicles. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact the at 860-875-1522.

Jan. 31

As a result of a motor vehicle stop, the operator, Hope M. Heavisides, 68, of 163 Parker Rd. in Somers, was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested. She was charged with operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, failure to drive in the proper lane, and operation of a motor vehicle in violation of license classification.

Feb. 1

A occurred in the area of 1 Maple St. in Ellington. The operator, , 23, of 129 Springfield Rd., Apt. 9 in Somers, evaded the scene and fled on foot. Legare was located and arrested a short time later. He was transported to Troop C and processed on numerous motor vehicle and criminal charges. He was held on a $50,000 bond. The pedestrian, 74-year-old Donald S. Akerley, of 1 Maple St., was taken to Hartford Hospital via LifeStar helicopter.

Feb. 2

Troopers investigated a reported disabled vehicle in the eastbound travel lane of Main Street at Bailey Lane in Somers. Investigation into this reported incident identified that in fact a one vehicle versus fixed object collision had occurred. The operator, Corinne A. Gill, 44, of 1 Meadowbrook Dr. in Stafford Springs, had entered onto the soft shoulder of the eastbound travel lane and struck a wire rope guardrail. She reentered the eastbound travel lane, continuing eastbound for approximately 50 feet prior to coming to a final rest position. She was wearing a seatbelt and no injuries were reported. Gill was subsequently taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and failure to maintain lane. She was released on a $500 non-surety bond with a court date of Feb. 22.

The owner of , on Somers Road in Ellington, is reporting theft of car stereos from vehicles. The case is under investigation.
