Ellington-Somers Police Blotter: Dec. 14-Dec. 20

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police, are accurate as of Dec. 21, 2012. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

Dec. 14

On Dec. 14, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 11 p.m., an unknown individual or individuals forced entry into a residence located on George Wood Road in Somers. Items were subsequently taken from the residence. It appears as though the individual or individuals spent a considerable amount of time at the exterior of the residence prior to making entry. State police advise residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Any information regarding this case can be reported to Trooper Cloukey at Troop C 860-896-3222 ext. 8016.

Dec. 17

On Dec. 15 at 10:28 p.m., Troop C dispatch received a call of a car that had struck a pedestrian on Route 30 at West Shore Road in Stafford. The pedestrian, identified as Thomas O. Miner, 61, of 76 South Rd. in Ellington, had been crossing the dark roadway during a heavy rain storm. The vehicle, driven by a 24-year-old Stafford man, was traveling northbound along Route 30 and struck Miner in the northbound travel lane. Miner was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital with head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital by medical personnel. There were no passengers in the vehicle and the operator was uninjured as a result of the collision. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Bolles Motors. This case remains under investigation.

Dec. 19

On Dec. 19 at approximately 5:53 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Northern Correctional Institution for an assault on a Corrections Officer. Subsequent investigation revealed that an inmate purposely tossed a cup full of his urine on a Corrections Officer. The inmate will be charged with assault on a peace officer.

Dec. 20

Nathan D. Althaus, 35, of 256 Mountain View Rd. in Somers, was stopped on Gulf Road in Stafford for a traffic violation and after failing general standardized field sobriety tests, was placed under arrest. Althaus was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to Troop C and processed without incident. Althaus was charged with operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol, a stop sign violation, and drug paraphernalia.
