An Ellington man, Michael R. Snow, 53 of Josh Hill Road was involved in a double fatal car accident, state police said in a release.

State Police say Snow was traveling eastbound on Route 6 in Windham near the intersection of Station Road.

A second vehicle driven by Norman Holland, 48, of Pemberton Road in Willimantic, was traveling northbound on Station Road and when Holland’s car attempted to crossover Route 6 it was struck by Snow’s car, state police said in a release.

Both cars sustained heavy damage. Both Holland and his front seat passenger, Holly Holland, 44, of the same address died as a result of their injuries.

State police are continuing to investigate, according to the release.

Norman and Holly Holland were employees at the University of Connecticut and had each worked for there for more than a decade, according to University President Susan Herbst, in a quote from the Hartford Courant.

"They were regarded by their colleagues in facilities operations and building services as wonderful people and outstanding employees who always went above and beyond for our students, and our university," Herbst said in a message to staff and students, which the Courant quotes.

She said that the university's counseling services will be available for facilities operations employees.
