Lack of male role models in schools

Over the past twenty years, the teaching profession has become more feminized than ever, recounts Peg Tyre in her 2008 bestseller, The Trouble with Boys. The percentage of male teachers in elementary school has fallen 18% in 1981 to 9% today. In secondary schools, men now comprise only 35% of teachers. This spells not only a lack of male role models, but also a dearth of male voice weighing in on the best ways to meet the needs of boys.
