Obituary: Ronald Iris, 64, of Ellington

Ronald H. Iris, 64, of Ellington, died Friday, May 30, 2014, suddenly at home.

Born on January 15, 1950, son of the late Benjamin and Margaret (Sennott) Iris, he had lived in Buffalo, N.Y. and West Hartford before moving to Ellington five years ago. He was honorably discharged as an Army SP5 as part of the group Mac V. Sog in the Vietnam War.

Iris received his associate’s degree from Dean College, his bachelor’s degree from Ashland University and his master’s degree from the University of Buffalo.

Before retiring he was a golf specialist for Sports Authority. He enjoyed golfing, the beach and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

Iris leaves his wife Nanci Iris of Sarasota, Fla.; his children, Jeffrey A. Iris and his wife, Erica Iris of Seattle, Wash. and Peter J. Iris and his wife, Lisa Iris of Enfield; a sister, Cynthia Iris and her husband, Jordy McFadyen of Wayland, Mass.; a brother, Benjamin Iris, III of Wasilla, Alaska; three adoring grandchildren, Madaket, Ewan and Natalie and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 13, at 7 p.m., at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Burial will be private. His family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.
