SCOTUS Gives Illegals Right to Vote?

In this installment of A View From the Deck, J. Wiley Dumas questions the recent decision by the Supreme Court and asks if the idea of Lifetime Appointments has run its course

NOTE: The following is OPINION. It is the Point of View of the author and his alone.

Just when you thought that things could not possibly take a more damaging turn against We, the People of the United States, in the shadow of the NSA gathering of phone and internet records, as well as the IRS’s specific targeting of Conservative groups and individuals, the United States (not so) Supreme Court, following the previous folly of their ways, as demonstrated in the Kelo vs. City of New London ‘Eminent Domain’ debacle, among others, overturned Arizona’s controversial Immigration Law on Monday that requires proof of citizenship before registering to vote.

The (not so) Supreme Court says “states cannot require would-be voters to prove they are U.S. citizens before using a federal registration system designed to make signing up easier.”

Huh? What? Seriously? So proof that you are a citizen of the country is not required to be able to vote? Does this mean that my distant family in Minsk can enter the country illegally and register and vote in the next election?

According to those fossils that sit on our nation’s highest court, that’s exactly what it means.

This just further makes the case that the Judicial branch of government is as much a disaster as the Executive and Legislative. It’s way past time to have these brain-dead relics, that make decisions based on bias and ideology rather than law, removed along with the imbecilic idea of ‘lifetime appointments.’

The justices voted 7-2 to throw out Arizona's voter-approved requirement that prospective voters document their U.S. citizenship in order to use a registration form produced under the federal ‘Motor Voter’ voter registration law.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said that the 1993 National Voter Registration Act, which doesn't require such documentation, trumps Arizona's Proposition 200 passed in 2004. Arizona officials say their law is needed to stop non-Americans from voting in elections, while opponents see it as an attack on minorities, immigrants and the elderly.

But the high court agreed with the federal government in the case.

Of course they did. No surprise there. After all, here in Connecticut, illegal aliens can now get a driver’s license with no more documentation than an e-mail that ‘proves’ they are residing in the state.

It seems that illegal aliens now have more Rights and benefits than Citizens of the United States and those trying to become legal, naturalized citizens. Why bother? It’s obvious that if you are in this country illegally, you have no worries, no taxes, and do you really need to suddenly get auto insurance after having done so long without it?

But as I’ve stated, the very idea of a lifetime appointment to the highest court in this nation is archaic and outdated, and allows for a justice’s personal bias to influence decisions that should be based on law.

We are seeing a trend toward a Socialistic-Progressive society that is heavily influenced by the EU, as well as other, less-industrial, nations, that want nothing more than to destroy the ‘Free Market’ concept that our nation was founded upon. We succeed or fail based on our own merits.

Don’t get me wrong. I love my country. I love what it stands for. But I no longer have any respect, faith, or trust for any branch of government. For too long, career politicians have dominated the House and Senate, and the executive branch has not produced a true leader since Reagan.

And now we are seeing the Judicial branch making ideologically-based decisions that only serve the interest of those that seek to expand government power, rather than those that truly are the government of this country:

We, the People.

The following comes from our own Declaration of Independence. Read these words carefully and take note of them:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

No, I’m not calling for an overthrow of our government, so don’t go accusing me of sedition. But I am calling for a very careful scrutiny of its current actions, which seems to have ignored the fact that We, the People, are the true government, and not those archaic fossils and career politicians that sit high upon the Hill and seek to become one with the Socialistic-Progressive culture that has enslaved so many on this earth throughout history.

Yes, Arizona is distant from us here in Connecticut, but the (not so) Supreme Court ruling on this matter affects each one of us, and further removes Rights and Freedoms that are guaranteed to Citizens of this nation.

Read those words from our Declaration of Independence, and think hard on them.
