Ellington Memorial Day Parades

Ellington Memorial Day Observance to Feature Flyby

Ellington’s Memorial Day Observances will feature several highlights this year. For starters, there will be two parades. The first will start at 0900 on Hwy 140 near Crystal Lake, pause to honor the Veteran’s Memorial, and then proceed to the Crystal Lake cemetery for a short ceremony.

The second will start with a ceremony in the Ellington High School auditorium at 1030. The parade will start at the high school at 1130, proceed to the Town Green for a short ceremony, and proceed to a final ceremony at the cemetery near St. Luke’s Church.

Ceremonies will be conducted by members of the VFW, American Legion, and the town’s ad hoc Patriotic Committee. They will include a POW/MIA Remembrance Table, interviews with WWII veterans, patriotic readings and songs, musical moments by the EHS band, and a C-130 flyover.

The parades will feature members of the fire departments, cub and boy scouts, the Poppy Queen, local veterans, and a color guard that will fire volley salutes at each of the stops. Admission is free for all events, so bring the whole family!
