Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt to Open Locally

Valerie Eklund and Cheryl Piaseczynski are bringing the franchise to the Meeting House Commons plaza in Tolland.

Tolland is going to become a little sweeter this March! Tolland residents Valerie Eklund and Cheryl Piaseczynski will be bringing a Sweet Frog frozen yogurt shop to Tolland this March, situated between the Med-East clinic and Bridget & Co. Hair Salon on Merrow Road.

"There aren't really a lot of places in Tolland to go and sit down," Eklund remarked on one of the reasons why she and Piaseczynski wanted to open their franchise in their hometown.

The business partners said that they want to make Tolland's Sweet Frog a destination for all Tolland residents, whether that means hosting a birthday party, grabbing a quick, sweet bite, or being a summer evening hangout for teens and young adults.

"The idea is to see toddlers, grandparents, everybody from 2 to 82," Eklund said.

"It's something to do that's wholesome," Piaseczynski added.

Sweet Frog frozen yogurt will also be offering healthy options for its customers. Residents will build their own frozen treat in the store, starting with the selection of 16 different frozen yogurt flavors.

Eklund and Piaseczynski said that, in addition to the traditional treat, frozen yogurt will be available in sugar-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, low-fat and non-fat varieties. And while many customers will probably choose candy toppings, fresh fruit will also be on the counters to top off orders.

Customers also have some influence over the final price; Sweet Frog charges by weight, Eklund and Piaseczynski said.

The new business owners will support the Sweet Frog brand's mission of community involvement. According to the Sweet Frog website, FROG stands for Fully Rely on God. Eklund and Piaseczynski said they interpret the motto in a non-denominational manner and hope to give back to Tolland once the store is opened.

Sweet Frog Tolland will be looking to hire soon. Interested residents can keep tabs on the latest offers on the Sweet Frog Tolland Facebook page.

Eklund and Piaseczynski said the Tolland store should be open in March.

There is also a Sweet Frog location in Glastonbury, with stores opening in Manchester and South Windsor, as well. Check out the Sweet Frog Web site for more information on the company.
