Readers' Choice: Favorite Place to Get Ice Cream

The summer season kicks off soon. Where will you get your frozen treats?

The weather is getting warmer and Memorial Day weekend is within shouting distance. That means it's time once again for swimming, sunscreen, and best of all, regular trips to your favorite ice cream spot.

You can get soft serve and slushies and frozen coffee drinks at almost any convenience store, McDonalds or Dunkin' Donuts. But where do you go for the real thing — the kind it takes someone with well-developed biceps to scoop out of a box or extreme skill and balance to twist?

Here are the obvious choices in the Ellington-Somers area, but let us know in the comments if we've missed one of your favorites and we'll add it to our poll.

The poll closes Friday at 9 a.m., and we'll announce the winner on Saturday.

This review is all about you — your ideas, your feedback and your voice — so we hope you will chime in and check back.

My first choice for home-made ice cream is Collin's Creamery and it's always a tough decision to select a flavor because there are so many delicious ones that I've tried over the years that I have to use the process of elimination to make the decision or choose 2...LOL. The cow chip, mounds, pumpkin, almond joy, blueberry, creamy chocolate and so many others are FIVE STAR delicious! My first choice for a quick and creamy bowl of chocolate soft serve is at Sonny's Place!
