Antonacci Buys Hampden Country Club

USA Hauling & Recycling president Jerry Antonacci bought the club at auction Tuesday.

Enfield businessman Jerry Antonacci purchased the recently-foreclosed Hampden Country Club at auction Tuesday.

Antonacci, president of USA Hauling & Recycling, Inc., bought the Western Massachusetts club, located just over the border from Somers, for $1.4 million. He said his children and nephews will head the golf operation, including his son, Guy Antonacci, a former club pro.

"We're going to try to make it a premier course," Jerry Antonacci said Wednesday, adding that the family planned to continue the on-site banquet operation as well.

The 18-hole, 6,874-yard championship golf course sits on 145 acres, and includes a two-story, 18,430-square-foot clubhouse and banquet facility. Three separate houses are also included on the total property, which encompasses 295 acres.

The club closed abruptly in October, with the owners owing about $50,000 in back taxes. TD Banknorth foreclosed its mortgage and filed a $1.6 million lien on the property Dec. 1, according to Hampden public records.
