Scenes From Ellington's "Wreaths Across America" Ceremony

Veterans were remembered at the Ellington Center Cemetery event on Saturday.

A short ceremony took place during the frigidly chilly noontime hour at on Saturday to honor America’s veterans.

Wreaths Across America ceremonies took place at Arlington National Cemetery and other locations across the country on Dec. 10 to remember, honor and teach people about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms.

According to its Web site, the nonprofit Wreaths Across America organization was founded in 1992 by Maine businessman, Morrill Worcester, and began with annual wreath laying ceremonies. Today, many communities hold a week of tributes in the form of parades, State House events and recognition programs for school children.

At the Ellington Center Cemetery ceremony, representatives from the Ellington Patriotic Committee, Jeff Martin and Wiley Dumas, gave opening remarks and were joined by the Honor Guards representing the American Legion, VFW, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Special recognition was given to the country’s Missing in Action and Prisoners of War. It was estimated that 93,000 Americans have been lost or never recovered.
