Ellington Winter Farmers' Market Starting Up Again This Year

The Indian Valley YMCA will be holding the farmers markets when it opens on Nov. 8.

After a successful partnership last year, the Ellington Farmers' Market and the Indian Valley YMCA will once again be teaming up to offer a winter farmers market this year.

The farmers market will start on Nov. 8 and will be held every other Friday, from 4 to 6 p.m., in the lobby of the YMCA located at 11 Pinney St. The market will end in late March.

“I can’t say enough about how great an experience we had last year; the staff at the YMCA was very excited and enthusiastic about our presence, and we are anxious to once again offer a winter market to our community" said Market Master Dianne Trueb.

Though smaller in size than its summertime offerings due to limited space, many locally produced foods will once again be available, including dairy, beef, seafood, pork, poultry, a wide variety of baked goods, cheeses, greens and specialty sauces.

Vendors include the popular Luann's Bakery, The Fish Market featuring a wide variety of fresh-caught New England seafood, and several of the produce, dairy and meat vendors that made the outdoor market a favorite place to shop for food on Saturday mornings throughout the summer season, Trueb said.

Artisan soaps, locally crafted pottery and pet pastries will also be featured with specialty items available for the holidays.
