The caption in the Images of America book, Ellington, copyright 2005, reads:

"'The Castle' on Somers Road is an Ellington landmark. It was built in 1917 by mason Edgar Aborn for Harry C. Aborn, who owned the general store in Ellington Center. The Aborns’ travels to Europe inspired them to build a castle like the ones they had seen. Avon Mountain can be seen from the top of the turret, which is reached by way of a spiral staircase."
