The assessor, emergency management department and water pollution control authority can be found in the Town Hall. The building official and fire marshal can be found in the Town Hall Annex. 
Crystal Lake Fire Department

The Crystal Lake Fire Department provides fire and emergency services to the Crystal Lake area and surroundingMore communities. It covers about nine square miles of Ellington.

The department is prepared for cold water rescues, water surface awareness, and off road and hazardous material emergencies in addition to the regular duties of fighting fires. The department also responds to any car accident or other medical emergency.

The Crystal Lake Fire Department has engine trucks, trucks that carry water, a light rescue and dive team truck, a forestry truck, a rescue boat and some other service vehicles. The department has a dive team that dives with the Tolland County Divers.

The Crystal Lake Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, Inc. was organized on August 27, 1934 and had 35 charter members. There is currently a junior program for 16 through 18 years old who are interested in becoming firefighters.

The town of Ellington is protected by the state of Connecticut resident troopers. The main function is to protect lifeMore and property in the town. This is achieved with four resident state troopers, 11 police constables, two Marine constables, and troopers from Troop C in Tolland. The Ellington office is supported by the entire state police department and can use any of the specialized departments, including the major crime squad, detective division, forensic laboratory, fire marshal's division, emergency services unit, narcotics unit, canine corps, bomb squad, and traffic and truck squads. From Monday through Friday, applications for state pistol permits, requests for a record check, requests for a copy of a state police investigation, maps, and motor vehicle forms can be obtained in this office. Appointments can also be made to have fingerprinting done.
