A Bike Ride, Pet Adoption Event, Car Seat Checks and More in Ellington and Somers This Weekend

Discover Hartford Bicycle Tour
Saturday, 8:30 a.m. - Join Bike Walk Connecticut on Saturday for a 10, 25, or 40 mile bike ride through Hartford's beautiful parks and vibrant, diverse neighborhoods. Ride the Discover Hartford Tour to discover the fun of biking as a great way to see your capital city. Come back and stay for a full day of fun at EnvisionFest, with entertainment throughout the downtown. The tour follows a relatively flat route and is meant to be ridden at a leisurely pace. The ride is open to riders of all levels, and families are welcome. Proceeds benefit Bike Walk Connecticut, your voice for bikeable, walkable communities. The tour starts and ends at Bushnell Park. Festivities start at 8:45 a.m. and the ride takes off at 9 a.m. Come early to register. Registration will take place at the main tent in the park. Registration fees start at $30 for members. Tag Sale and Coat/Food Drive at Connecticut Water Company

Saturday, 9 a.m. - Connecticut Water Company employees will be holding a tag sale and coat/food drive on Saturday. In addition to the tag sale, which features household items offered by Connecticut Water employees with a portion of the proceeds going to charity, there will be a collection of gently used coats and canned or other non-perishable food for distribution through local social service agencies to persons in need. Employee organizers encourage everyone who stops by to bring a coat or non-perishable food item with them.

Farmstead Fair

Saturday, 10 a.m. - Creative Living Community of CT will host the 2nd Annual Farmstead Fair on Saturday. The fair will feature artisans, tours and products from the greenhouse, demonstrations,  free horse drawn hay rides, food, kids activities, entertainment and a silent auction. Proceeds from the fair will benefit the CLCC Greenhouse Program which provides horticultural experiences for people with developmental disabilities  and a variety of community classes. The greenhouse is phase one of CLCC's vision and commitment to create a viable farmstead community. CLCC seeks to create a shared, inclusive living experience for individuals with and without developmental disabilities, by focusing on the gifts of all in mutually rewarding relationships. The event is free with a $5 parking fee.

Our Companions Adoption Event
Saturday, 10 a.m. - Many adoptable cats, dogs, and other small, furry pets will be waiting to meet you. Applications will be collected, but pets will not be adopted out the day of the event. 

Car Seat Checks
Saturday, 10 a.m. - To mark National Seat Check Saturday, AAA, working with local Child Passenger Safety technicians, is hosting a free car seat check at its Enfield office. Inspections are free and appointments are not necessary. Car seat inspections are also available by appointment at the Manchester and West Hartford offices. For more information please call 860-570-4319.

Brewers Fest
Saturday, 4 p.m. - Ski Sundown will host its seventh Brewers Fest at the mountain on Saturday. This fall tasting experience will include 35 of the "Who's Who" in microbreweries and brewpubs from Connecticut and beyond. The band Poor Gordon will provide musical entertainment and a selection of grill foods, side dishes and snacks by The Meat House of Avon will be available for purchase. Tickets may be purchased online at www.skisundown.com for $25 in advance, and $30 at the door. You must be 21 or older to attend and a photo I.D. is required. Designated driver tickets are $20. The event will be held rain or shine and ample free parking is available.
