Vernon Lions Club Race Is Just Ducky

More than 700 plastic ducks raced for cash prizes.

The Vernon Lions Club sponsored its fourth-annual Duck Race to benefit Vernon Lions Club Charities in the Hockanum River behind Connecticut Golf Land Amusement Center on Saturday.

It was part of the Summer Days Carnival.

The ducks were released at 6 p.m., and a Vernon woman's duck floated to victory.

The first prize winner of $1,000 was Maureen Tyler of Vernon.

The second prize winner of $500 is Tom Dobruch of Newington.

Third place and $250 went to Ray Tautic of South Windsor.

The fourth-place prize winner of $150 was Kathleen Mather of Colchester and the fifth-place prize of $100 went to Judy McCarthy of Vernon.
