Toiletries, Clothes Needed for Stand Down 2011

Event is expected to help 1,200 veterans.

The  will be holding its annual Stand Down event in September, but they need clothing and toiletries for the program.

Stand Down 2011 is a day-long event where homeless and needy veterans can receive services and supplies. About 1,200 veterans are expected to be helped at Stand Down 2011. 

The following toiletries are needed (please no trial sizes).

  • Disposable razors 
  • Shaving cream
  • Lotion
  • Soap 
  • Shampoo
  • Powder
  • Toothpaste 
  • Toothbrushes 
  • Combs/brushes

The following clothes are all needed. For health regulations, all clothing must be new.

  • Hooded windbreakers (L, XL, 1X, 2X)
  • Sweatsuits (L, XL, 1X, 2X)
  • Hooded sweatsuits (L, XL, 1X, 2X)
  • Hats (all sizes)
  • Scarves
  • Gloves (all sizes)
  • Men's and women's slippers (all sizes)
  • Socks (men's and women's)
  • Underwear (men's and women's)

Volunteers are also asking for bottled water, but food and gift cards are not needed.

If you would like to donate, you can bring your items to the Human Services Department and place them in the large blue collection box. The last day for collection of the items is Monday, Aug. 29, but the staff at the Human Services Department would appreciate it if you could get them there sooner so that they have time to pack and prepare them for transport.

People can also drop off items at the , at 287 West St., from Aug. 1 to 30 between the hours of 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Before dropping off items, please call 860-616-3651. 

Stand Down 2011 will be on Sept. 9 at the , from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
