New England Regional Chili Cook Off on Tap for Saturday

The annual event draws a crowd from all over and features great food and fun.

This weekend, Somers will become the epicenter of the chili world.

The International Chili Society sanctioned 2013 New England Regional Chili Cook Off will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Golf Center.

An opening ceremony will be held at 11:50 a.m.

The cost is $7 and two canned goods or $8 with no canned goods. People over 70 or under five are free.

Four current ICS World Champions will be joined by as many as 70 chili cooks from as far away as Canada, including those in the “Jim Heywood Yute division,” 50 vendors, clowns, magician Gary Bessette, and even fire eaters.

Visitors will be able to enjoy music and fun, watch the DEFCON wing eating contest, see Miss Connecticut, and eat BBQ courtesy of BT’s Smokehouse.

All proceeds will benefit the Somers Fire Department and Patriot Guard Riders CT and organizer Michael Freedman said that the goal is to raise as much money as possible for these organizations.
