Hundreds Turn Out for Channel 3 Kids Camp Ride

The parking lot at TSI Harley-Davidson/Buell in Ellington was packed with bikes for the annual benefit ride.

Hundreds of bikers of all ages and backgrounds came together at in Ellington for the annual Channel 3 Kids Camp benefit ride.

Participants were treated to music, food, and raffles before the ride.

During the approximately hour-long ride, riders got to enjoy a scenic ride through North Central Connecticut on a beautiful, sunny day.

The final destination for the ride was Sun Valley Beach Resort in Stafford Springs and the riders enjoyed a barbeque by the beach. There were also prize drawings, vendors, music, contests, and other kinds of fun.

The only negative of the day was an accident by one of the participants.

David Woodmansee, 67, of Milford, was participating in the charity ride when his motorcycle traveled off the right shoulder and struck the embankment near the intersection with Evergreen Drive on Route 74 in Tolland.

He was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest in the westbound lane.

He was transported to Hartford Hospital via LifeStar helicopter.

State police said that they thought the accident was severe at first, but it turned out to be more moderate than expected. 

The case is still under investigation.

The Channel 3 Kids Camp, located in Andover, is in its 100th year of existence and it serves to provide a fun and exciting camping experience for children from all across the state - and from several different backgrounds.

The main program of the Channel 3 Kids Camp is the overnight and day summer camping program, but the camp runs programs year round.

Children ages six to 16 participate in these programs.
