Try the Ellington TRI!

I know what you're thinking, but YES you can complete a triathlon! The Ellington Sprint Triathlon (held July 14th this year) is perfect for beginners as well as seasoned athletes and everyone in between.  Yes there's a hill ironically called "Minor Hill" with an 18% grade but that's beside the point...the point is that it's a "sprint" TRI (think short!) with a very supportive community and a focus on the fun of competing.

The Ellington TRI was my very first triathlon back in 2009, marking three months after my twins were born.  It was most definitely my post-pregnancy goal race and I was terrified!  But, I made it though the swim (barely!), had a great time on the bike (I conquered the hill!) and I love to run so it was thrilling to cross the finish line on Crystal Lake beach!

I've participated every year since and it keeps getting better.  The volunteers are amazing, the course is well marked and safe and the atmosphere is festive and friendly.

It's only six weeks away, the buoys are in the water at Crystal Lake so there's really nothing left to do but sign-up and start training!   You can sign-up through the Town of Ellington web site - registration is open!

TIP 1:  Start training on your weakest link.  For me, that is hands-down the swim!  I'm planning to get my wet suit on and get in that lake ASAP.  Want to join me?  Drop me a line - I already have a group forming.
