WALK WITH US TO REMEMBER
those you love who are no longer here to walk for themselves!

This is Connecticut’s First Ever Statewide Walk To Remember and Remembrance Day, held “concurrently” with the National The Compassionate Friends Annual Walk, this year being held in Minnesota on the closing day of the National Conference for bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents.

On July 9, we use walking not only to honor our loved ones, but to create public awareness that The Compassionate Friends exists. No one wants to need to go to The Compassionate Friends Meetings. No one wants to experience the death of a child, grandchild, or sibling- no matter the age ~ pre- birth to full maturity ~ no matter the cause. We want them alive, happy and living with us….but when the unthinkable does happen it is the peer-to-peer understanding and support of The Compassionate Friends, there with hugs, understanding and caring that helps families during the darkest times of their lives.

After the 11:00 walk, there will be a cookout (hot dogs and hamburgers supplied) and Pot luck Picnic (everyone is invited to bring items to share). There will be music, and visiting. There is a fish stocked pond for those who might enjoy bringing rods and reels. There is plenty of green grass for lawn games, sunning, relaxing. There are picnic tables to support some board and card games that anyone may want to bring. We will set up a bulletin board where you can pin a copy of your loved ones photo, and they’ll be plenty of ears to hear stories. When the time is right, we will have a memory service with some music, a reading or two and then release butterflies in memory of our loved ones gone way too soon. It will be a day of community and caring. A day of gentle remembering and sharing.

Anyone who has ever lost a close relationship is welcomed to attend. The Compassionate Friends meeting rooms are for those of us who have experienced the death of a child, grandchild, sibling or a relationship that held that closeness. Others who care and wish to offer support are more than welcomed on this First Statewide Remembrance Day! I am hoping that my former Girl Scouts will be joining us ~ as well as my daughter’s friends, co-workers, dance students, dance team partners. It is a way of not only supporting those of us left behind, but of remembering someone loved.

Help us Celebrate those who aren’t here to join us in body but will always be Remembered!

My daughter died and I still hate it every moment of every day.
But being with others who care, who understand, who allow me to say her name and even relish hearing her stories, helps me to put one foot in front of each other every day.

I NEED TO
WALK TO REMEMBER

I hope that you will come and remember with me.....

I will be Walking to Remember my daughter,
