Temperature Reaches Near 100 Wednesday, Thursday

Did you work outside in the heat? Or did you get to play in the hot sun? If so, and if you have pictures, share them on Ellington-Somers Patch!

The first day of summer descended upon Ellington and Somers with a vengeance Wednesday. Although the hot season did not official begin until 7:09 p.m. Wednesday, the sun and humidity did not wait for the clock.

The National Weather Service issued a heat index warning until 7 p.m. and then again for Thursday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Cooling centers were opened throughout the region and people started heading to area shopping centers to walk around in the air-conditioned comfort.

In New Britain, a dozen people were hospitalized after being overcome by the heat during that high school's graduation, according to the Hartford Courant.
