Wild Shootout Expected In Final Round of Travelers Championship

Jacobson leads Molder by one; 15 players within five shots of lead at PGA Tour event in Cromwell.

Last year, it took a three-man playoff to decide a champion at the PGA Tour's Connecticut stop, the Travelers Championship. Based on a quick look at the leaderboard, this year's event may follow the same course.

A 7-under-par 63 Saturday moved Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden to 16-under, giving him a one-shot lead over Bryce Molder heading into Sunday's final round. That duo will tee off in the final pairing of the day at 2 p.m.

Jacobson, 36, who has not won since joining the PGA Tour in 2004, holed a downhill putt on the 18th hole Saturday that gave him the outright lead. He has not made a bogey in three rounds this week at the TPC River Highlands.

"I've been driving the ball well, kept it in play and kind of haven't gotten into too much trouble," he said. "I'm looking forward to playing in the last group. I don't think I've played in the last group on a Sunday."

Molder, a 32-year-old Arkansas native who also has yet to win a Tour event, drained a curling 38-foot birdie putt on the course's signature hole, No. 17.

"From that distance and that much break and downhill, you're just trying to get it close, and what do you know, the hole gets in the way," Molder said.

James Driscoll enters the final round alone in third place, three shots behind. Six players are at 12-under, led by Nick Watney, who is fourth on the 2011 earnings list with just under $3 million.

Six players stand at 11-under, including amateur Patrick Cantlay, a 19-year-old UCLA freshman who fired a course-record 60 in the second round, the lowest score ever for a non-professional in a PGA Tour event. In all, 15 golfers are within five shots of the lead.

The winner receives $1.08 million of the tournament's $6 million purse.
