Tri-Town Boy's Ice Hockey Beats Staples 3-2

The Ellington, Somers and East Windsor team is still undefeated.

The following posted was submitted by Scott Wyllie.

It was another nail biter at the Enfield Twin Rinks as the Tri-Town Terror Cats out played the Staples Wreckers on New Years Day.

Opening up the game, Somers students Sarah, Claire, and Kaitlyn Savage performed a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. Representing “Sing for Savage," the Savage sisters help raise money for cancer awareness and started the New Year off with some great hockey.

Falling behind within 20 seconds of the first period 1-0, Tri-Town fought hard to tie the game with a breakaway goal by Ryan Gaidos. As the battle waged on, Tri-Town took the lead late in the period. Senior Nick Violette perfected a cross ice pass to Connor Wyllie who put it in the back of the net. Staples was quick to respond with a breakaway sliding one past goalie Alex Bliesener to tie the game at 2.

With the game deadlocked at 2-2 throughout the 3rd period, Tri-Town pressured Staples defensively. Tri-Town Junior Jay Skorulski picked up a rebound and through it past the Staples goalie giving the Terror Cats a 3-2 lead.
With over 28 saves, Tri-Town goalie Alex Bliesener was key to a strong defensive performance.

Tri-Town (4-0) plays Hall-Southington at Veteran’s Memorial Hall in West Hartford on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m.
