Somers Student Named 'Rookie Field Hockey Player of the Week' at Keene

KEENE, N.H. — The Little East Conference honored three Keene State College fall athletes on Monday.

Senior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) and freshman Lindsay Szuch (Stratford, Conn.) were named men’s runner and women’s rookie runner of the week respectively while freshman Kayla Renaud (Somers, Conn.) was selected rookie field hockey player of the week.

Widzgowski was the first Division III runner to cross the finish line this past weekend at the Dartmouth Invitational. The senior from Camden, Maine covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 25 minutes, 19 seconds to place 24th overall.  Keene State finished fourth among five teams in the team standings, defeating Division II Bentley University.

Szuch was the second Keene State runner to cross the finish line this past weekend at the Dartmouth Invitational. The freshman from Stratford, Conn. completed the 6-kilometer race in 23 minutes, 40 seconds to place 61st overall.

Renaud paced the Keene State College offensive attack with 11 points this past week to power the Owls to a 3-0 mark. The freshman from Somers, Conn. registered a hat trick in her Little East debut against Fitchburg State on Sept. 14.  Earlier in the week, she recorded a marker and a helper in Keene State’s win against Williams. Renaud also potted a goal to help the Owls edge Springfield.
