Somers Girls Soccer Beats Enfield 1-0

Somers is now at 2-1-0 for the season.

Coach Michael Pantuosco contributed the following post.

Somers Girls Soccer earned its first road victory of the season with a hard fought 1-0 shutout at Enfield Tuesday afternoon.

Enfield dominated the early play but were held scoreless by Somers senior goalie, Hailee Stetson. As time was running down in the first half, Somers broke the tie as sophomore Bridget Logan targeted senior Erin Pfefer with a perfect lead pass and Pfeifer slammed it in the net from 15 yards out.

The half ended with the Spartans clinging to a one goal lead.

The second half was again played in Somers defensive end but senior backs Julie Folger and Kristen Steidler limited dangerous chances. With about 12 minutes remaining Somers forward Kathryn Lavallee broke through on the right wing and rifled a shot off the right post. Neither team managed to threaten in the final minutes and Somers moved to 2-1 on the season. Enfield dropped to 0-2.

Somers coach Mike Pantuosco credited the play of his goalie and the defense as well as the outstanding efforts of several subsitutes, led by Amanda Roberts. Both Pfeifer and Logan helped neutralize the midfield.

Somers will host perennial NCCC powerhouse Avon on Friday.
