Somers Baseball Outlasts East Windsor

It took a little extra time, but the Spartans walked away with the victory.

A day after handily defeating East Windsor, the Somers High School baseball team had to fight the Panthers for the win on Tuesday.

The Spartans came away with a 3-1 victory in a wild, extra inning game in East Windsor.

East Windsor got on the board first when Bryan Perron doubled in Kevin Briggs in the first inning. Somers evened the score in the third with a run batted in from Austin Ficara.

East Windsor got the winning run to second in bottom of seventh, but the runner was thrown out trying to steal third.

In the top of the eighth inning, Ficara lead off with a single then stole second. Brian Hollister then walked and Mike Casciano grounded out to short, moving the runners over. Ryan Connor then drove in both Ficara and Hollister on a single to center.

Connor was also the winner for Somers, throwing a complete game. He didn't allow a walk and struck out four.

Dom Fiaschette took the tough loss for East Windsor. He pitched 7 1/3 innings, walking four and striking out one. Cody Moore came in in relief.

Somers (6-0) travels to Lyman Memorial on Saturday. East Windsor (0-6) travels to SMSA on Thursday.
