Ellington Softball Wins in Section II Tournament

The 11-12 All-Star team defeated Jewett City in Middletown on Monday.

The Ellington 11-12 year-old All-Star softball team defeated Jewett City 9-5 in the Section II Little League softball tournament in Middletown.

Ellington spotted Jewett City a run in each of the first two innings before Courtney Fitzsimmons sparked the Ellington offense in the top of the third with the first of her three hits of the night.

Rachel Stone worked a walk and was driven in along with Fitzsimmons on a sharp single by Brianna DeLand.

The hot bats continued to work in the fourth inning as Ellington put up five runs to break open the 2-2 game against District 11 champion Jewett City. Kayla Buffington lead off being hit by a pitch, Jordan Harbaugh walked, Taylor Duclos beat out an infield single, and Fitzsimmons singled.

Stone followed that with a single, pitcher Jessica Miller singled to drive in two runs, and DeLand then tripled scoring Miller to put the District 8 champions up 7-2.

Jewett City scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a triple by Shyla Klick that scored Brooke Rainville who had walked and then Klick was driven in on a fielder’s choice. 

Jewett City plated a run in the bottom of the fifth to get it to 7-5 then Ellington added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth on hits by Cassie Holmes and Hunter Ryan.

Each team has two more games in the Section II pool play which will wrap up Wednesday in Middletown.
