Ellington Soccer to Face Suffield for Class M Championship Title

The Knights beat Lyman Hall High School 1-0 on Tuesday, sending them to the championship match.

After a close 1-0 victory against Lyman Hall High School on Tuesday, Ellington High School's boys soccer team will again be playing for the Class M championship title.

The team will Face off against Suffield High School this Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at Falcon Field in Meriden.

This is the team's eighth visit to the finals, said Coach Roy Gurnon.

The team is coming off a notable victory when James Costanzo scored the team's only goal when there was less than two second left on the clock, The Sports Dept. reported.

"It was kind of a tale of two halves," Gurnon said, when asked about Tuesday's game. "In the second half we started to put a lot more pressure on their goal."

Gurnon said the team played well, and that it came down to the last 10 minutes. He also credited goalie Jonathan Bassett and the team's back line of defenders - Jack Connelly, Nick Toper, Nick Schipper, and Ian Chandler - for doing a "tremendous job" in Tuesday's game.

"We’re in a very good place now," Gurnon said about the upcoming game against Suffield. "We’ve just been trying to take better care of the ball, get the ball to the next player, defending with more purposes. It’s just a lot of little things they’re trying to put together."
