Ellington Boys Lacrosse Comes Up Short; Somers Defeats Host Avon

Brian Borbas led the way for Ellington while Somers was paced by a balanced attack.

The boys lacrosse team came up just short against visiting Granby on Thursday.

The Bears snuck out of town with a 10-9 victory after being up as much as 7-2.

Ellington fought all the way back to tie the game but ran out of gas.

Brian Borbas scored four goals for Ellington (0-2). Connor Defemia and Aaron Daley each scored two goals and Lucas Horvath netted one in the loss.

Granby improves to 2-2 on the season.

Ellington hosts Woodstock Academy on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Somers

The boys lacrosse team defeated host Avon 11-7 on Thursday.

A balanced scoring attack led the Spartans. Mike Hanna and Neil Cardwell each had two goals and two assists for Somers. Donald Whittle also scored two goals and had an assist.

Zach Thresher had a goal and two assists and Alex Geas, Tyler Russell and Nick Marocchini each netted on for the Spartans.

Jason Mustafa played well defensively and goalie Dan Bell was stellar with 22 saves.

For Avon (2-2), Curtis Skelley scored four goals.

Somers (3-0) travels to Newington at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
