O'Grady Leads Somers to Win
With one minute left in the first half, Stafford had held Somers to a 1-1 tie on goals by Somers' Jaclyn O'Grady and a breakaway goal by Stafford's Deanna Burns. Over the next 12 minutes of play O'Grady turned the game into her own personal highlight reel. Taking a long pass from Tori Laires with about a half minute remaining in the first half, O'Grady beat the goalie to the lower left corner for a 2-1 halftime lead. At halftime, Somers changed tactics from passing inside the goal area to taking the ball directly to the goal and O'Grady benefited from this change immediately adding goals # 3,4 and 5 in the first 11 minutes of the half assisted by Laires again and twice from Kathryn Lavallee. Lavallee netted the sixth and Erin Pfeifer took a great set-up pass from Sarah Squillace to make it 7-1 with about 18 minutes remaining.
Somers defense was led by Sammy Percoski and Hannah Soar. The Spartans improved to 5-3-1 and Stafford fell to 2-7-0. Somers travels to Ellington for a game on Wednesday before returning home for its only home night game of the season Friday vs Granby.
