Superintendent of Schools Maynard Suffredini said that everyone in the district is happy to be back.

He added that due to Hurricane Irene, it was very important to get the students back, especially since many did not have access to water, hot meals, and lavatories.

“Now they do,” he said. “We are also opening our middle school from 4-9 p.m. for citizens to come in and take if they desire.”

There were some rumors going around that the missed day would be made up on Friday – which is an off day – but that is not the case. The students will still have Friday off and will have a long Labor Day weekend.
