Somers Squeaks by Stafford

The Somers High School boys basketball team was able to outlast the Bulldogs.

The boys basketball team came from behind to defeat host Stafford 52-51.

The Spartans trailed 40-31 entering the fourth quarter but came back for the win. Evan Woicik scored 13 points - including nine on three-pointers - in the final quarter.

Jayce Haynes had eight points - including two foul shots that gave Somers a three-point lead with under a minute to play - in the fourth quarter.

Stafford had two chances to win when they missed a driving layup and a put-back in the final seconds. Matt Benoit secured the rebound for Somers and was fouled with .5 seconds on the clock.

Woicik finished with 29 points and Haynes finished with 10.

Somers (11-5) hosts Windsor Locks on Friday.
