Somers Soccer Wins Two

The Spartans played on back-to-back days and defeated both Coventry and Windsor Locks.

The Somers High School boys' soccer team played on Tuesday and Wednesday and came away with two victories.

The Spartans first defeated host Coventry 3-1 and then visiting Windsor Locks 4-1.

Against the Patriots, Luke Alvaro scored two goals and Joe Pantuosco finished off the scoring. Mike Dumas added two assists.

George Zoghbi scored the lone goal for Coventry.

Kyle Trusch made five saves for Somers and Nikolai Vanek made 18 for Coventry (1-8).

Against Windsor Locks, Dumas, Austin Ficara, Alvaro, and Brandon Scanlon found the back of the net. Pantuosco had two assists and Nick Elia also had a helper.

Chase Dargie, assisted by Kenan Omerbasic, scored for the Raiders.

Trusch made five saves for the Spartans and Ed Langan made 11 for Windsor Locks (4-5-1). 

According to Somers Coach Rick Kelley, Dumas and Pantuosco were instrumental in the success in both games and Alvaro continued his scoring leadership. Ficara and Scanlon provided great support, each chipping in goals, as well as solid, consistent efforts. 

Matt Kopec and Kyle Foster have been defensive rocks, what Kelley called, "absolutely impressive."

Somers (7-3) will travel to East Windsor on Friday.
