Somers High School Named One of America's Best

See where Somers sits as Newsweek's "The Daily Beast" includes the school on its list of the nation's 2,000 best schools.

Newsweek's The Daily Beast recently released its list of the top 2,000 public high schools in the nation. Somers High School made the list as No. 1,562.

According to The Daily Beast, the success of a school was measured by their effectiveness in turning out college-ready graduates. That effectiveness, the Web site said, is based on six components: graduation rate, college-acceptance rate, Advanced Placement tests taken per student, average SAT/ACT scores, average AP test scores, and the percentage of students enrolled in AP courses.

The list includes a number of schools in the area, including the following:

No. 112 - Connecticut IB Academy (East Hartford)
No. 405 - Farmington High School
No. 455 - Glastonbury High School
No. 629 - Hall High School (West Hartford)
No. 720 - Conard High School (West Hartford)
No. 741- South Windsor High School
No. 816 - Canton High School

No. 1,238 - Sport and Medical Sciences Academy (Hartford)
No. 1,527 - Coventry High School

The No. 1 school on the list is Bowling Green Kentucky's Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky.
