Somers Girls' Soccer Wins A Tight One

The Spartans defeated visiting Canton on Friday.

The Somers High School girls' soccer team defeated visiting Canton 3-1 on Friday behind two goals and an assist by Kathryn Lavallee and a goal and an assist from Erin Pfeiffer. 

Lavallee scored five minutes into the game and the lead stayed 1-0 until halftime.

The second half was dominated by the midfield play of Kylen O'Hearn and Kathryn O'Connor, but Somers couldn't capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities.

With about 20 minutes to go, a defensive mixup led to a breakaway, game-tying goal by Canton. The rest of the game was dominated by Somers and it broke through with Lavallee's second goal on a feed from Jaclyn O'Grady.

Minutes later, Pfeiffer converted a pass from Lavallee to make the final score 3-1.

Somers got outstanding defensive efforts from Julie Folger and Kelsey Charette.

The next game for Somers is Tuesday at Bolton.
