It was a tight battle with E.O. Smith, but the Spartans pulled it out.
The field hockey team opened the season with a 2-1 victory over host E.O. Smith on Wednesday.
The score was tied at the half, but the Spartans were able to put in the winner in the second half.
For Somers, Kristen Steidler had a goal and Kayla Renaud had a goal and an assist.
