Somers Basketball Opens With a Win

The girls' team defeated visiting Lyman Memorial on Wednesday.

The Somers High School girls' basketball team opened the season with a 51-40 victory over visiting Lyman Memorial on Wednesday.

According to Somers coach Alan Walker, both teams started slow in their first game of the season, but Somers pulled ahead 22-16 at the half with balanced scoring from five players in the second quarter.

Somers' full court pressure continued to create turnovers in the third quarter, and the Spartans pulled away in the beginning of the fourth to lead by 18 points with four minutes to go.

Diandra DaRosa led Somers with 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals while Hailee Stetson added 10 points and eight rebounds. Kylen O'Hearn added 11 points for the Spartans.

Briana Padewski led Lyman Memorial with 10 points.

Somers will host Ellington on Tuesday.
