Somers Baseball Makes the Tournament

With one game remaining, the Spartans needed to win to earn a state tournament berth.

In a must win game, the baseball team did just that, defeating host Hale-Ray 3-2 in a crazy game.

Great fielding and a few key hits led Somers to its eighth win, and in turn, the state tournament.

Somers center fielder Mike Casciano threw out the tying run at the plate to end the game. Casciano also had a run-scoring triple in the game and scored the winning run.

Ryan Connor had two hits in the game, including the game winning RBI.

Nate Czelazewicz allowed only three hits in picking up the win for Somers.

Somers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second, but Hale-Ray immediately scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. Somers scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Somers finishes the season at 8-12 and Hale-Ray finishes at 10-9. Both teams will now wait to see who they draw in the tournament.
